My song, The High Life, was just placed in the new motion picture, Reality Queen!.

The High Life was written by me and Robert Haas, with a guest rapper, BLKRAW; the video was directed and filmed by Robert on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, CA, with animation created by my sister, Sally Clinton.

Song Contest Awards

Just for fun, I occasionally enter songwriting competitions. To the left, below, are some of the contests Robert Haas and I have won:

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE “WRITE A SONG FOR CHER” SONGWRITING CONTEST

My fans have continually asked me about writing a song for Cher’s album. “Where is it?”, they ask!

Here’s the backstory:

In 2003, Robert Haas and I won the worldwide songwriting competition, “Write A Song For Cher“, sponsored by AOL and TONOS, a now defunct online songwriting demo service run by the Grammy award-winning producer David Foster and his long-time collaborator, Carole Bayer Sager.

Robert Haas and I won the grand prize, which was to be that Cher would record the winning song for possible inclusion on her next album.

As it turns out, the contest appears to have been nothing more than a scheme to garner free publicity for its sponsors.

Now, 13 years later, David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager still have not produced the song, nor has Cher ever recorded a demo version of the song as agreed to in the contest rules.

As I recently discovered, Foster and Sager pulled a similar stunt the year before. They did exactly the same thing to Nashville songwriter, Ric Kipp, who won a songwriting contest Foster, Sager, and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds sponsored with AOL. The contest rules stated that the winning song would be recorded by Michael Jackson. As it was in my case, It never happened!

David Foster and Carol Bayer Sager burned all of us by intentionally breaking their contractual promises. In doing so, Foster and Sager dishonored themselves, and tarnished the reputations of respected artists Cher and Babyface.

Just sayin’ . . .

Major Label Recording Artist

As the lead singer in the Mercury/Polygram rock group, Red Siren, my label mates were Def Leppard and Bon Jovi.

Kristin Massey Red SirenWe toured the country and had a nice run on MTV while racking up two Billboard-charting rock songs, All Is Forgiven (#7) and One Good Lover (#29).

Red Siren made music history by using a Synclavier® Digital Music Tapeless System to record the first ever Direct-To-Disk® rock album.

Back then, the only recording artists using the Synclavier® were Michael Jackson, Sting, Frank Zappa. Pat Metheny and John McLaughlin. Our Synclavier® cost as much as a home but it was worth the money! As a singer, I appreciated the fact that I didn’t have to worry about “getting cold” while waiting for tape rewinds between takes.

Today, an SSL® mixing desk and Pro Tools® HD digital audio workstation–the combination used most often to record today’s hits–have replaced the Synclavier® in my recording studio. Robert and I are currently recording the second Red Siren album. Stay tuned for the drop date!
